You have all been so supportive with my limericks, my poetry and my writing, without which this opportunity may never have arisen. I have entered a poem I wrote in a Bedtime Story competition with Nature Made, the vitamins and supplement people. The first phase of the contest requires getting votes, and lots of them. I don’t know how many votes I will need to win, but at this stage of the game I would like to secure 100 votes a day. Please help me get the most votes so I can fulfill my dream as a published author. Let this be just the beginning! Also I will win a cash prize of $7,500 which would be a dream vacation for my family to go visit our relatives on the East Coast. We could travel in style!
A friend of mine told me I should try writing children’s stories after reading this poem I wrote while thinking of my mother and myself as I was growing up. I found my chance. I entered it a contest. Voting is once daily until November 22, 2010. Please vote for me! I could win $7,500! Also, it will be illustrated and published.
Tell me a story
No, tonight it’s your turn.
Then I must study. I have so much to learn.
Read to me, write something, Sing.I don’t care.
Just tell me a story. It’s your turn to share.
I don’t know what to say.
I don’t know where to start.
Just tell me a story
That comes from your heart.
Okay I will try.
.
Once there was a little girl and her name was me.
She woke up in the morning as happy as could be.
Her favorite was a lady whose name was you.
They loved to be together even when she grew.
.
You teach me to read, and to sew and to cook
You take me for walks under elms through a brook.
You let me stay up to count the very last star
You buy me fresh bread, teach me to play the guitar.
.
Let me love you forever to the end of the day,
The way that you do when I laugh and you play.
You are the one that made me to be me;
That is more important than any degree.
Now where did that come from? You are wise beyond years.
Please get me a tissue to wipe away my tears.
The story is not over I could go on and on.
It is late, but I love each image you have drawn.
I will tell you more tomorrow and every day after
Now it’s my turn to fill your life up with laughter.
I love you.
I love you, too.
Forever.
For always.

thank you, buttercup. your support is just awesome as well! xoxoxoxox
awww..this is so cute!
great playful piece, you are great with childrens poems
to be honest there was one line that bothered me gramatically. (I know poetry has no rules of grammar, but childrens book publishers may dislike it) It just felt off to me and distracted me a bit from the otherwise flawless flow.
“They loved to be together even when she did grew.”
“did grew” maybe change it to “just grew” or something… or drop the “did” then it has the same # of syllables as the line before…
Great poem and good luck winning the prize! I voted.
here are my rally wk 30 entries..

thanks for your observation. i was going over and over that line myself, wavering as to whether it was right or not. That part is told by the little girl, so I thought not only did it rhyme, it sounded like what a little girl might say. the other part i wavered on was under elms through a brook but my own daughter told me she loved that part, don’t change it. i will mull it over some more and figure it out.
i will also be checking out your entries. life gets so busy, so it may not be today, or even tomorrow, or the day after that! i have two classes that i attend that throws my free time off. but i will check you out! it’s the least i could do for my newest critic! Thanks, I truly appreciate your honesty.
